Salam,

There is evidence that the Bible is the original source of marriage of underaged or prepubescent girls that parents were led to believe it is not a sinful or immoral as there is no restriction in any age limit or any form of qualification governing the right to get married is ever presence in the Bible. However, the Quran have all the evidences and quoting the rationale who qualify to get the permission to be married.

Marrying Prepubescent Girls is allowable in the Bible –

The Bible and the Jewish scriptures were the sources of underaged marriages as according to those scriptures there is no restriction or prohibition of age in child marriage as any virgin girl can be married as proven by the following verse of the Bible –

1 Corinthians 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou had not sinned, and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless, such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spared you.

The above verse shows there is no restriction in age for the Christian to marry girls of any age and the verse even stipulate that if the groom hurts the poor little girl during the wedding night the Lord of the Bible will spare him. That is how lenient it appears in the Bible text.

And in another verse of the Bible at Joel 1:8 “Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.”

According to the definition of “youth” in the Oxford dictionary it is “The period between childhood and adult age.” That will mean any age can qualify to be married in the Bible.

Further in the Old Testaments at Numbers 31:17-18 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

Here again in the above verse the Bible permits the exploitation of young female children over the captives of war. It can be interpreted that they can either be slave or married at a young age or simply abused.

Thus, since the Bible allows any virgin girl to be married and children captives can be kept for yourselves it is therefore legal for Christians to marry even a three-year old virgin underaged girls.

The Jewish scriptures also supports underage child marriage as proven by the following verses –

Yebhamot 11b: “Sexual intercourse with a little girl is permitted if she is three years of age.”

Aboda Sarah 37a: “A gentile girl who is three years old can be violated.”

It can be seen that the Bible and the Jewish scriptures without any qualification and restriction attached as conditions of marriage were the sources that supports marrying an underage virgin girl whether she is three or six-year old.

On the contrary, the Quran prohibit marrying young underaged children unless they pass the marriage test which requires them to be matured and able to manage her own household as a fully capable wife and they must also be able to understand the marriage agreement that she needs to stamp. Furthermore, the command in the Quran is to marry matured women and not children as stated below in the following verses –

Surah 4:6. And test the orphans [in their abilities] until they reach marriageable age. Then if you perceive in them sound judgement, release their property to them.

Surah 4:21 And how could ye take it (given dowry) when ye have gone in unto each other, and they have taken from you a solemn agreement?

Surah 4:3 If you fear that you cannot deal fairly with orphan girls, you may marry women (Annisaa) of your choice, two or three or four; but if you fear that you might not be able to treat them with equal fairness, then only one

With the regards to the wives of the Prophet, it was recorded in the Quran that all those of his wives were matured woman (Arabic “ni’saa”) which means that all have cleared the marriage qualification and requirement as matured women as stated in –

Surah 33:30 O consorts (Ni’saa) of the Prophet, whosoever among you commits a flagrant indecency, for her the chastisement shall be doubled; that is easy for God.

However, despite of all the requirements especially the marriage test at Surah 4:6 one must be matured to be married, there were opportunists who interpret the following surah to include prepubescent girls in the Quran at –

Surah 65:4 And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women – if you doubt, then their period is three months, and [also for] those who have not menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birth. And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him of his matter ease. It is claimed that in the first category those of the women who have passed the age of menstruation due to their old age, their waiting period is three months. In the second category the classification of those who have not yet menstruated, were not only to include matured women but also to be included those of young prepubescent girls who have not yet reach the age of menstruation due to their young age. Their iddah or waiting period is also three months.

This inclusion of prepubescent girls at Surah 65:4 contradicted with Surah 4:6 as it is just impossible to include prepubescent girls with waiting period or iddah as in the first place, they will fail the marriage test at Surah 4:6. To qualify to be married their maturity must be proven that they can manage their own household and are able to understand the agreement they are going to authenticate. Underaged girls can never pass this hurdle.

Even if it is for matured girls well over being underaged in Surah 65:4 it is not uncommon that some matured girls or women have abnormal menstruation because of sickness known as amenorrhea in which primary amenorrhea is diagnosed as one who reach the age of 16 but yet have not begun to menstruate. These are the reference group but to include underaged prepubescent girls in Surah 65:4 is a clear falsehood and a contradiction to the marriage test at Surah 4:6.

Thus, for those who accused Islam of allowing underaged girls to be married is untrue and unfounded as the Quran is in actually fact have put hindrance and clear strict qualification for those who wish to get married.

It is therefore ridiculous, to assert that the Prophet Muhammad married Aishah when she was six-year old when there is in the Quran clear reference and qualification whom he is allowed to marry.

It is clearly a blatant lie and a fabrication to smear the good name of the Prophet of Islam. And those false hadith that claimed the Prophet married a prepubescent girl were clearly being inspired and being outsourced from the adulterated scriptures of former people in the Bible and Jewish scriptures as being quoted above.
